LIBRARY NEWSLETTER
Check out all the new ‘Communities’ books in the library now.
Books
The books are piling up here, but you will see a whole lot of new books displayed to fit in with the ‘communities’
theme this term. There are some great picture books about farming (written by a couple who live on a farm in
NZ) as well as a selection on the jobs that people do (including teacher and librarian!).

Be sure to check out Jeannie Baker books as well. I have been reading them to the classes during library visits,
and they will all be floating around the school, and I will get more. She does these wonderful community themed
picture books, often wordless. She creates miniature collage artwork for the pictures in her books and they are
really cool. I will endeavour to get as many of her books this year as possible. Check her out here

Resources
There are a new selection of levelled readers in the resource room between rooms 17 and 18, and also a few
replacement copies in the junior resource room.

In the library, boys and Minecraft….
We have a load of boys, mainly in the year 2 - 4 age range, who are fixated on Minecraft, Pokemon and Captain
Underpants. Which is fabulous!!! Except, even though I have upgraded, boxed and purchased extra extra copies of
all of these well-loved series they are still managing to be out pretty much all of the time. If they are in the library
it is for perhaps 2 minutes. Max. So, aside from buying more I am going to put together a box, or a shelf, or
something that encourages those boys to find another book title that interests them in the event Minecraft Zombies
is out yet again.

Also targeting this I will be bringing out…
LUCKY DIP BOOKS
These books will be hidden in paper bags with the barcode written on the front. They might say, for example,
“Great for a Year 3 Girl” or “Adventure for a Year 4 Boy”. I’m hoping the kids will enjoy picking a lucky dip and taking
a chance on a book they can’t yet see - and this may also help them find new authors, new characters or a new series
they may not have chosen otherwise.
